Texlet is a LaTeX editor that works on files on your Mac. You do not need an account to write and compile, and your documents stay on your Mac unless you use a feature that sends them somewhere, as described below.
No analytics, no tracking
Texlet does not collect usage data, does not include analytics or advertising, and does not track you. This website does not use cookies or third-party scripts.
When Texlet connects to the internet
- TeX packages. When you install TeX resources or a package a document needs, Texlet downloads them from CTAN mirrors and from Texlet's own resource pack. Only the files are requested; nothing about your documents is sent.
- AI features (optional, off until you set them up). With an API key you enter, or a ChatGPT sign-in, the text and context of your request go to the provider you chose, under that provider's terms. Keys and sign-ins are stored on your Mac, in the Keychain, and are used only for requests to their own provider.
- Academic search (part of the AI features). Only the search terms are sent to arXiv, Crossref and Semantic Scholar.
- Zotero. Citations come from Zotero on your own Mac; nothing leaves the computer.
- Git. Texlet talks only to the remotes you add to a project.
Cloud projects
Cloud projects, for writing together with other people, are optional. If you use them:
- You sign in with your email address (we send you a sign-in code) or with Sign in with Apple. We keep your email address and display name to identify you and to let the owners of a project invite you.
- The files and history of your cloud projects are stored on Cloudflare's servers, and are available to the members of each project. Projects on your Mac are never uploaded unless you choose to upload them.
- The emails we send are sign-in codes and invitations, and nothing else.
- When the owner deletes a project, its files and history are erased. When you delete your account, your sign-in data is erased along with the projects you own.
